Client Updates

  • The 64-bit Vista+ client has been updated to use DOSBox Staging 0.82.2.
  • The 32-bit Vista+ client now ships with DOSBox SVN instead of Staging since DOSBox Staging no longer supports 32-bit platforms.
    • This update effectively makes this client a separate client from the 64-bit version and you will be prompted to login again.
    • You will need to reconfigure your games and remove the mapper files from the game folders.
    • The title of the app will now contain (32-bit) so it's obvious which version is installed and running.
  • The Rise of the Triad standalone server is now built into the CGA server and will be spun up on demand. This removes the need to run ROTT in client on top of server mode and improves gameplay. This also applies to the self-hosted server inside the client. Client on top of server mode will still be used when setting up a P2P game room.
  • A custom ROTTIPX.EXE will no longer be shipped with the client as it is no longer needed.
  • Added option to set which network adapter DOSBox will use. This new option is on the "General" tab of the configuration screen. It defaults to "Auto". You should only need to set this if you have more than one active network adapter. NOTE: This setting will only return adapters under Windows 98 and above; NT4 and Windows 95 are not currently supported.
  • Under the Win9x/ME client the BLASTER parameters setting has been moved to the "Games" tab of the configuration screen.
  • Under the Win9x/ME client the "Network Interface Card" setting has been renamed "Native Network Adapter".
  • Updated NOVERT.COM with a patched version that allows it to work properly with games such as Rise of the Triad. For ROTT this only works in DOSBox and not running in Windows natively.
  • Added a call to NOVERT.COM /U after a game has finished running to unload it.
  • Added support for Burnout Championship Drag Racing's config file which sets the game's CD-ROM drive letter.
  • The user game add/edit screen will now default the CD drive letter to D: when checking "Use CD" checkbox and no drive letter has been selected yet.
  • Inbound IPX packet handler will now ensure all packets are at least 30 bytes in size (ie: the IPX header size).
  • IPX packets will have their header length checked to see if it matches the bytes read in order to filter out bad packets.
  • Verbose player connectivity chatter in the game room chat window will now only be displayed in debug mode. It can all still be viewed in the logs.
  • The game room launch button will no longer activate/deactivate multiple times when auto launching and the "You may launch the game now!" message will no longer erroneously display multiple times.
  • Under the games menu, renamed "Lobby" to "Room Browser", renamed "Rooms" to "Entered Rooms" and renamed "Create Room" to "Create Game Room".
  • Under the chat menu, renamed "Lobby" to "Chat Lobby", renamed "Rooms" to "Entered Rooms", renamed "Create Room" to "Create Chat Room" and added a menu item named "User Rooms" which will take to the "User Rooms" tab of the chat pane.
  • Temporarily moved the "Servers" menu item from the "View" menu to the bottom of the "Games" menu and gave it a shortcut of Ctrl+Shift+S and removed the View menu.
  • Renamed the "Discord" menu item under the Help menu to "Discord Help Channel".
  • Added a "Community" main menu and moved the community based links from the Help menu to it and rearranged the Help menu.
  • Added a help button above the online users window which takes you to the Help chat room.
  • All chat input boxes now have a hint that reads "Type a message..." and it will disappear when typing starts and will reappear when the input is cleared.
  • You can now right click on your avatar in the bottom left corner of the main screen to open the online status context menu instead of just the online status icon.
  • Added a system information dialog which can be accessed from the Help menu.
  • When filing a bug report there is now an option to include your system information.
  • The "Players" column of the game room list will now just show the total players and number of players in the room.
  • Blood: Cryptic Passage will now swap the names of 2 ART files so they will all load properly in multiplayer.

Server Updates

  • The Rise of the Triad standalone server is now built into the CGA server and will be spun up on demand. This removes the need to run ROTT in client on top of server mode and improves gameplay.
  • Minor stability fixes.
  • A beta build is now available for Linux.
  • Improved the Linux dpkg installation package.
  • The default port config for TCP and UDP will now be the same port number, so 6000/6000 for server #1 and 6001/6001 for server #2.
  • Inbound IPX packet handler will now ensure all packets are at least 30 bytes in size (ie: the IPX header size).
  • IPX packets will have their header length checked to see if it matches the bytes read in order to filter out bad packets.
  • The general connect, disconnect and watchdog log messages are now set to debug level instead of minimal in order to reduce log writing from non-CGA client connections.
